We Can Help You Obtain Your Green Card
A green card or Permanent Resident Card is a card that allows non-US citizens to live and work in the United States. Green cards are vital to anyone who is not a United States citizen who wants to work or live in the country. The process for obtaining a green card can be tiresome so an individual needs to make sure they qualify before beginning the process. In fact, it would be advisable for one to obtain a green card lawyer so they can help familiarize them with the method of immigration laws. Qualifications for Green Cards People seeking a green card are usually sponsored by a relative or employer.
Immediate family members of United States citizens are entitled to apply for a green card as long as the relative that is a US citizen petitions for them. Relatives include: spouses of US citizens, children under the age of 21 that are not married, step-children or step-parents of US citizens if the marriage was prior to the child’s 18th birthday, or children who are adopted by US citizens if the adoption occurred before the child turned 16. Sometimes employers can hire non-citizens whose skills are needed in this country. The non-citizen must show verification that there is an employment offer. In addition, the employer is required to show that he needs them and that there are no US citizens that are qualified for the position. A person can also apply through the Diversity Lottery. This is done annually and is where the State Department selects 110,000 green card applicants from all entries. After a person has a green card, there are two major reasons that it could be revoked. First, if an individual leaves the United States for a long period of time, it would be very difficult to reenter the country.
Generally, it is not wise to be out of the country for more than a year at a time. If an individual plans on being gone longer, then they can apply for a reentry permit, which permits a green card holder to stay gone for as long as two years. The person needs to apply before they leave. Once again, a green card lawyer can help a person with this matter is the need arises to leave the United States. The second reason that one will get a green card revoked is if an individual breaks the law. This does not only mean criminal charges, but also civil offenses as well. If a person gets arrested or are charged with violating the law, they should immediately contact an immigration attorney. Immigration attorneys are better equipped to deal with these issues because criminal attorneys may not completely comprehend the consequences that legal problems will have on a person’s immigration status. The United States immigration structure can be very complex so it would be very beneficial for a person to hire a good immigration lawyer to help them through the process so that no unexpected problems arise.
Qualifying for US Citizenship
Many of us want to qualify for US citizenship. Qualifying for US citizenship is a complex process. There are certain eligibility criteria that must be satisfied to become a US citizen. The person must have a good moral character and no serious criminal records.
The first and foremost requirement for becoming a US citizen is that you must be lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence. You can qualify for US citizenship four years and nine months after you acquire a green card. If the green card is obtained through marriage to a US citizen, you will qualify for US citizenship after three years of your marriage provided you are still married and you live with your US citizen spouse. If you have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, you may qualify for US citizenship based on your military service.

If you have been away from the US for a period exceeding 6 months but not more than a year, it absence will not affect your eligibility if you show that you did not abandon your residence during that period. You must have resided within your state or county for at least 6 months. If you are serving in the military or your application is made within 6 months of an honorable discharge, you will be excused from this physical presence requirement.
You must be eligible to speak, read and write English to qualify for US citizenship. You will be exempt from this requirement if:
